So a strange this happened today, I actually wanted to go for a run. I was feeling blah and a little bit useless and pissed off with the world and I decided I wanted to go for a run to make myself feel better. I did 5K straight through in a fairly decent time and felt great when I was done. This was the first time I ran straight through and the first time I WANTED to go for a run, strange but true.
"Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must move faster than the lion or it will not survive. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must move faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter if you are the lion or the gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be moving.

Goal setting
My
new 10K clinic started Friday and we eased into it. We ran 3.2K and I had
one of those runs that make me believe I AM a runner, not just someone who
runs. It's one of those runs where everything feels right, you feel good
running, your speed is good and you feel like you can run forever. It's
like hitting the perfect golf shot, it happens once every hundred shots but you
keep playing hoping for another one. Let me be clear, I DO NOT LIKE
RUNNING! I do it to keep the weight off and so that I can do all the
adventurous things my marathon running husband likes to do.
My
running instructor asked us what our goals where for this clinic; mine was to
improve my time for the 10K. My first 10K time was 70 mins so for my next, my goal is 65 mins. When I
started running, I never thought I could run 10K, now I know I can. I need to keep remembering this as I get
closer to the half marathon. I have achieved so many of my goals by breaking them
into smaller, measurable parts. For
this week my goal will be to run 4 times and not let my work stress interfere with
my daily life, a challenge during tax season.
"The goal you set must be
challenging. At the same time, it should be realistic and attainable, not
impossible to reach. It should be challenging enough to make you stretch, but
not so far that you break." Rick Hansen

Six months and counting
Today is the first day of my new 10K running clinic at The Running Room in Orleans. The weather is great and I have been out for a few runs so I am looking forward to it. First race the the 10K in Halifax at their Bluenose event. I will be running with Roy, who is one of the people I am running the half marathon with. This will be our first race together and based on the results we will be setting our goal time for the half marathon. I am almost tempted to go slow to set a slower time for the half but pride makes me want to beat my first 10K time of 70 mins. We will see what wins but for now ts just time to run. The Army Run is in 6 months....and counting.

It has to start somewhere
So I all started like so many things do with trying to help a friend out of rut last fall. Why don't we set a big goal, I said, lets run a half marathon in the fall of 2012, we don't have to run all of it, maybe half and we can walk the rest. Who was I kidding, I had walked a half marathon once before and it's hard work, run one, forget it. I was fairly sure I would get turned down, boy was I wrong. Now I was committed to running a half marathon, something I swore I would never do. Well it's a year away, lots can happen, nothing to worry about now. I started my 10K training course and concentrated on that. I found out that I actually like running a little bit more then I thought and really enjoyed running with others. I started to look forward to my running group and even the run itself. Fast forward to March and I am starting training or my next 10K race and the half marathon is getting closer and closer, six months away. I paid my entrance fee so I can't back out now, I even registered to do a sprint triathlon in another fit of madness. I am sure this will be an interesting 6 months, hopefully we will get to the finish line.
